How their Garden Grew

Remember that sweet couple, Randy and Joyce, that I told you about?! Well, forty years ago they planted the seeds, and with it their beautiful garden grew. What a wonderful way to celebrate the richness of their life together, with the joining of that garden here in paradise. They rented a beautiful beach house on the shores of Waimanalo, where the sweet sounds of the ocean could harmonize with the even sweeter sounds of laughter from their adorable grandchildren. Here are some of the photos of the celebration, their family’s special time together here in Hawaii…

Just got back from a quick trip to Kauai with my girls. First time there, and my impression is it has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Seriously. Back here at home and just a few days left of school and then– Summer! It’s here already. Anyone else feel like 2010 is speeeeeeding by?! Well, here’s a quick snap from Kauai…can you tell we had fun? Can you tell there are roosters/chickens EVERYWHERE? It’s country in the best way…ahhh I think I left my heart in Kauai. I think I may have to find my way there again soon…anyone in Kauai need a photoshoot?! Have camera, will travel!

I have always thought it would be amazing to have my photograph on the cover of a book. That has happened, and I’ll share more on that soon. But what if I shot a photo specifically just after reading a book, a book that I really loved, and interpreted that into one photo that would grace the cover and share with all what was inside. What a challenge, what a dream! I am putting it out there…I will do this;)

Now, just for fun, play along with me in my dream…
If this was the cover, what would the story inside be called?

I’d like to think that all of the people I photograph, each person and each experience is special. But I have to say, photographing this couple, and their beautiful family was on the top of the special list. What an honor to capture the spirit of their love…after 40 blessed years of marriage.

It’s been awhile.

celebrating 11 years of life

A few days ago my oldest daughter turned 11. Bittersweet but beautiful. As your children grow older, I think it’s easy to creep into denial. Oftentimes in your mind’s eye you still see them as a baby, as a child. But there’s no denying that they are growing, learning and changing…sprouting up with each new day in their sunshine-filled lives.

It had been awhile since I’d photographed my sweet girl. She is busy as ever, has lots of other things to do than hang out with her mom and her mom’s camera. But I knew that I wanted to capture these sweet days, savor the last days that my baby was 10, ten years of life, a full decade of love.

And so we ran out, captured the closing-in of the day. Scouting a new spot, helping her mama out, but really just stealing a few little glimpses into her world. Because they are just glimpses, such fleeting embers in time and then they drift away…and onto the next year…11.
