celebrating 11 years of life

A few days ago my oldest daughter turned 11. Bittersweet but beautiful. As your children grow older, I think it’s easy to creep into denial. Oftentimes in your mind’s eye you still see them as a baby, as a child. But there’s no denying that they are growing, learning and changing…sprouting up with each new day in their sunshine-filled lives.

It had been awhile since I’d photographed my sweet girl. She is busy as ever, has lots of other things to do than hang out with her mom and her mom’s camera. But I knew that I wanted to capture these sweet days, savor the last days that my baby was 10, ten years of life, a full decade of love.

And so we ran out, captured the closing-in of the day. Scouting a new spot, helping her mama out, but really just stealing a few little glimpses into her world. Because they are just glimpses, such fleeting embers in time and then they drift away…and onto the next year…11.

Ashley - Happy belated birthday!! She’s beautiful! I just love your girls. You should photograph her like everyday:) She’s a beautiful subject and your photos totally look magazine. Awesome job Carrie!January 1, 2010 – 11:07 pm

Jeannie - These are beautiful. I know how hard it is to watch them grow up. It’s as if I want so badly for them to stay “mine,” but they just can’t. Your images show a serious, grown-up side and still a playful, childlike side.January 3, 2010 – 11:15 am
