Coming soon…

My Natalie, about to graduate Mountain Pointe High School Class of 2017! But I’ll save that for another post. This is my beautiful daughter testing the light for me on a photo shoot. I am going to miss her so much for obvious reasons but she has also been so amazing to work with this past year! Assisting me on many photo shoots, doing absolutely stunning hair and makeup for some of my seniors and just all around supportive of me and my dreams. I can’t wait to see you go after yours! Thanks for everything Natalie, you’re the best.

Jake is the son of a good friend of mine. Jake was one of my first high school senior photo shoots, and after our time together I was hooked! Not only is Jake handsome and kind, he was a natural in front of the camera. With his piercing beautiful blue eyes, he has a timeless look that reminded me of an old Hollywood movie star. He attended Corona del Sol High School and played lacrosse there, and was set to attend ASU (Arizona State University) in the Fall so it made perfect sense to do our photo session in Tempe and on campus where he would soon be starting his new chapter in life.

One of the things I love about being a photographer is meeting new people and getting to know them through my camera. I met this Ahwatukee family and really enjoyed our time together, seeing the different family bonds and capturing their family in a way that maybe hasn’t been done before. I think in the digital world we live in now, it’s hard to remember that selfies and social media photos aren’t necessarily what we’ll have to look back on 10, 20, 30 years from now to see who we are. Those ways of sharing photos, while common and instant, don’t truly reflect relationship and don’t feel as permanent as taking the time to have a professional photo session. I don’t know, none of us do, what will happen to all of our photos and digital sharing as things continue to evolve at such a crazy pace. Doing family photo shoots like this, gives everyone a chance to slow down, interact, reflect and really share with me their love for one another. It was my honor to be let in for a brief time to create lasting photos that they have already been able to share with the ones they love.

Bella is one of my favorite people. I may be a little biased, because I am her aunt and she is family. But she is one of the strongest people I have ever met. She graduated last year Class of 2016 from Desert Vista High School, and the pride I felt in her in that moment was other worldly. She has had a long journey to get where she is today, and she continues to discover more and more about who she is, and the type of woman she wants to be. If you’ve never met Bella, from the outside you can see her beauty. But what you can’t see is her silly side. She has a laugh that makes her double over and watching her laugh is one of the great joys in life. Her eyes light up and most of the time she laughs until she cries. These are moments I will never forget. Laughing with you, watching you laugh so hard you can barely breathe. This joy inside you, it brings life to any situation and you have the ability to bring a lightness wherever you go. Life is heavy at times, but you remind me of a warrior; strong, capable, and courageous. Life was never meant to be easy. You have shown that with grace and determination, you can do whatever you put your mind to. I am proud of you Bella, I love you and I hope you continue to grow upward in this amazing journey called life.

Heaven describes herself as happy, energetic, motivating and loving and I couldn’t agree more. She has a heads down get through anything type of attitude that is infectious. Knowing Heaven and her family, it has been a joy to photograph her as she prepares to start her new life after high school. She has big plans, playing volleyball and earning a scholarship to NAU (Northern Arizona University). Her ideal day is in bed watching Grey’s Anatomy with a chai and some popcorn. Which makes perfect sense because she loves to learn about Science and plans to go into the medical field someday. But for now she’s going to continue being a beast on the volleyball court at NAU, and I am excited to watch her graduate in the next few weeks alongside my own daughter. These past four years of high school are about to come to an end, but they haven’t always been easy. She described them as hard, active, but still fun. One of her greatest strengths is that she is a people person and can adapt well to new situations. Her four year journey led her from Mountain Pointe to Hamilton Chandler and back to finish at Mountain Pointe, all along with a smile on her face. She credits God and her family for keeping her motivated, with her dad’s quote being one of her favorites, “Expect great because you are!”. With that kind of support and a strong faith, I have no doubt Heaven is going to continue to do great things! Congratulations Heaven, Mountain Pointe High School Class of 2017!
